“Say The Word”

from The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown

Sometimes when I look at you,
I don’t know why you’d wait.
School girl in a little world
Who learns everything late.
I’ve always had all the answers
Now I don’t have a clue

Some nights when the clouds are thick,
And the wind starts to blow.
I stare out my window
Wondering where I will go.
I turn the light out
Under the covers all I think of is you.
Just you.

Say the word
And I just might listen.
Say the word,
And you might get your way.
Loving you should be easier
But say the word,
And I might have to stay.

Meanwhile there’s so many things
That I don’t understand.
I don’t know why I tremble
When you reach for my hand.
I didn’t know how to love
Until you swept me away.

Say the word
And I just might listen.
Say the word,
And you might get your way.
Loving you should be easier
But say the word,
And I might have to stay.

I wanna love.
I wanna ride.
I want to be the girl
There by your side.
Just tell me when,
Just tell me how.
Tell me I’m ready now.
Today.

Say…
Say the word
And I just might listen.
Say the word,
And you might get your way.
Loving you should be easier
But say the word,
And I might have to stay.

Where can I listen to this song? (:
My friends and I fell in love with Run Away With Me (and Michael Arden). I’d really like to know more about …Samantha Brown’s plot. Could you help me out? Thanks, and all the best!

    Here’s the current synopsis:
Samantha Brown, high school valedictorian, dreams of skipping out on freshman year at Columbia University in favor of driving into the unknown. Her bags packed, but she can’t turn the key in the ignition. As the defining moments of her senior year flash through her mind, Samantha has to come to terms with her parents’ expectations, her first love, and the loss of an important friendship before she can turn the key in the ignition and make the first decision of her adult life.

SAY THE WORD is the song she sings to her boyfriend. It comes at a pivotal moment in the plot when she decides that she’s ready to lose her virginity.

    kait:

you only need permission if the competition requires that you get permission. we don’t require that you get permission. we only ask that you let us know what public performances you did. every spring we catalog the performances that everyone did in order to submit them for an award given by ASCAP.

We will announce it on the news section of our website as soon as a press release goes out. We have an out-of-town workshop production in the works for the spring that we should be able to officially announce soon. Congrats on your Honorable Mention. That’s awesome. If you have a video of it, post it on here and/or share it with us on YouTube. We’d love to hear it.

I was wondering where I could get an accompaniment of this song for a pageant. I listened to Miss NY sing this at Miss America and would LOVE to do this song at a local pageant for my talent. You guys are amazing and this song is amazing!!!

Wow!! So, I was watching “Scrubs” this earlier when i randomly clicked on a “Chelsea Lately” clip that was mocking the info-bubbles popping up while Miss New York (from the Miss America pageant) was singing your song “Say the Word”… I had never heard The song before, nor had I ever heard of the amazing Kerrigan-Lowdermilk musical duo! the song really touched me and reminded me of my years in high school. Thank you for bringing back such good memories. (I also just realised that the previous comment mentions Miss NY! great! and I thought my post would be original, wrapped in random…ness.) Keep it up, your music/lyrics are exceptional! Regards from sunny Athens, Greece.

Well, first off. We didn’t do the track for the “Say the Word” broadcast, so we don’t have it just now. We’ll see what we can get for you (it might be a piano track but making some of those are in our new year’s resolutions).

Second, Helen: I can’t believe you found our song after the Chelsea Lately clip! I have to say - that is incredibly original and I’m glad that you weren’t turned off by the bubbles. :) As far as I know, you’re the first person to have found us in Athens. So pass the good word on! We like Greece and aspire to go there someday. Thanks so much for writing!

    Also, I <3 Scrubs.

I just wanted to say that I absolutley love this song! I have loved it and have listened to it for the past 2…maybe it’s been 3 years. All of your music is fabulous, and all I can say is I can’t wait to hear more from you! Are you planning on coming east coast anytime soon?

  16. 16
    kait:

We live on the east coast and we’re doing a concert at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland, VT at the end of July and our music will be featured in a concert in NYC on July 27th at the Beechman. But we don’t have any long-term engagements scheduled yet.

    Chloe:

My sister and I are so excited to hear that! We’re going to do everything we can to get to New York, Vermont would be a little rough…but I can’t wait to hear what you guys will be doing in the future! I would absolutely LOVE to see one of your shows!

I absolutely love your music, and I was wondering if you knew if you’d be coming to the philadelphia area anytime soon… if you are my sister and I would definitely try to go! Thanks!

    kait:

We don’t have anything planned for Philly right now. We were just down there teaching a workshop on the Eastern College campus. We’ll definitely post it to our news blog if we do plan a concert or something else for the Philly area though!!! We love it there.

    Sarah:

Hi! I know you already left a comment about this song and what it is about but, could you give me a more detailed synopsis of it? I’m using it for a workshop and i really need to know why she is saying some of the words and i want to know her intentions on this song. Does Sam want to lose her virginity to her boyfriend, like does she want him to tell her that he wants to lose his to her? Is she scared about it? and Why does she say “you might get your way”? Is he putting pressure on her to go to next step? And What does she mean by “and i might have to stay”? Does she want to leave him? I’m sorry for asking so many questions but i just love this song and i really want to know it better. Thanks so much!
