I Drove You Home
I drove you home.
I walked away.
You went inside.
I didn’t stay.
I drove you home.
I said goodnight.
I tried to sleep.
I saw first light.
Sometimes I don’t even know myself
What I’m expecting.
Life is over there on some shelf.
Dust’s collecting.
I drove you home.
I took your hand.
I had to ask.
It wasn’t planned.
It felt like death.
You didn’t speak.
I held my breath.
And I felt weak.
I held my breath.
I’ll hold my breath.
I’ll hold my breath
Another week.
Life is over there on some shelf.
Dust’s collecting.
Oh, I drove you home
I took your hand.
I had to ask.
It wasn’t planned.
It felt like death.
You didn’t speak.
I held my breath.
And I felt weak.
I held my breath.
I’ll hold my breath
I’ll hold my breath
Another week.
I held my breath.
I’ll hold my breath
I’ll hold my breath
Another week.

this is such a gorgeous song! I was actually there when Emma premiered it, but i’m still confused as to what it’s about?

On the simplest level, it’s just a song about someone who goes out on a limb, asks a big question, and doesn’t get the response that they hoped for but also doesn’t get completely shot down… so it becomes about the sense of hope in the face of very slim odds. Dunno… does that come across?

I love the lyrics! I’d love to hear what it sounds like with a boy singing it, though.

This song is so beautiful! Emma’s version is beautiful, very touching. I love how she sings it somewhat piano, great touch! the simplistic lyrics also add to the overall effect.
Great piece of work.
